Official Announcement

With gratitude and joy, we announce ‘Bristol Gurmat Class’ has acquired a new permanent base and will now be known as ‘Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Gurmat Vidhyala (Bristol).’

We are indebted for the love, trust and support that the sangat of Bristol and beyond has placed on us since our inception in 2017.

We take this opportunity to thank the sangat and members of the management of Siri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Bristol, who supported Bristol Gurmat Class between 2017-2020 and all of the local Gurdwaras for their support, especially during the Nagar Kirtan of 2019.

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic meant our activities became online like much of the world. After the easing of restrictions in July 2021, we were due to recommence Gurmat Class at the Gurdwara in September.

In May 2022, the current management committee of Siri Guru Singh Sabha decided not to recommence Gurmat Class activities. In June 2022, we were asked to remove all our items from the Gurdwara. No formal or official reason has been given for our eviction.

Nevertheless, seva must continue. Classes were restarted immediately in local community centres between May – June 2022. Since September 2023 we have been renting the premises of May Park Primary School and Hillfields Community Hub.

Today, nearly 100 students learn Gurmukhi, Santhya, Kirtan, Tabla and Gatka with Guru Jee’s blessings, and we continue to grow with a waiting list for September 2023.

Education requires stability, and a dedicated Gurmat Vidhyala (school) provides that. During the Sikh Raaj, Vidhyalas were based around the Sikh empire and ensured children, both boys and girls had access to spiritual and worldly teaching.

With your blessings, we have acquired a permanent location where we can independently continue with our seva of educating children and arming them with Gurmat.

Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Gurmat Vidhyala will be located at the ‘Old Flower Pot Inn, 147 High Street, Kingswood, BS15 4AQ’ and we will begin with an Akhand Paath Sahib and Sthaapna Smagam on 6-7-8th July 2023.

We will continue classes at May Park Primary School and Monday evening classes at Hillfields Community Hub for the rest of this term.

We cannot wait to begin our new chapter, in our new home.

With upmost thanks

Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Gurmat Vidhyala (Bristol)

Formerly known as Bristol Gurmat Class.
